BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—After giving up a second-quarter field goal, the Birmingham-Southern football team scored three straight touchdowns and held Sewanee scoreless the rest of the way to win, 21-3, Saturday afternoon on Battle Field at Panther Stadium.

BSC moved to 3-0, while Sewanee fell to 1-2. The Panthers are now 7-2 against the Tigers.

Sewanee scored its only points of the game at the 8:07 mark of the second quarter on a 25-yard field goal by Callum Wishart. The Panthers responded on the next drive with a touchdown, a 27-yard rush by junior tailback Samir Usman for his third touchdown of the year. Freshman Ryder Andrews nailed the point after to put BSC up 7-3 at the 6:08 mark of the second.

Less than a minute later, the Panthers found themselves in the end zone again after freshman defensive back Matthew Byers snagged Cody Daniel's pass and ran it back 19 yards. Andrews was on the mark again to give BSC a 14-3 lead, which they took into the locker room at the half.

BSC received the ball to open the third quarter and scored on their first drive, with a five-yard pass from junior quarterback Austin Martin to senior wide receiver Daniel Lopera. Andrews wrapped up the scoring with his third extra point to push the lead to 21-3 at the 10:26 mark of the third quarter.

Martin finished with 95 yards, going 5-11, while Usman had 69 yards on 17 carries and Lopera had 38 yards on two catches.

Junior defensive back Matt Franks led the defense with 12 tackles (11 solo). The Panthers totaled 11 tackles-for-loss and three sacks, and forced four Sewanee fumbles.

BSC is on the road next week, traveling to face Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
