Albion runs wild

More news about: Albion

ALBION, Mich. – Colin Parks and Mike Czarnecki combined for 285 rushing yards and four touchdowns as Albion defeated Lakeland, 47-21, at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium.

While the offense rolled up 572 yards, Albion head coach Craig Rundle wanted to talk about the defense.

"What made me happier is we played better defense," Rundle said. "We played more sound and had guys in the right spots."

Parks scored his second touchdown of the first quarter on a four-yard run and Dominic Bona scored from six yards out and hooked up with tight end Joe Mayone on a two-yard score in the second quarter as Albion held a 27-7 lead at halftime.

Albion extended the lead to 34-7 when Parks completed the first drive of the second half with a two-yard run.

Czarnecki produced Albion's last two scores in the third quarter. He ran for a four-yard touchdown and took a screen pass 28 yards to the end zone.

Rundle credited Lakeland for its role in holding Albion to less than 60 points for the first time this season.

"We played a good defensive team. We knew it would not come easy," Rundle said. "With that said. We missed some blocks on the edge and dropped passes."

Albion's defense collected two turnovers. Kyle Pelayo picked off a pass and Jeremy Shephard, who was credited with 10 ½ tackles, pounced on a fumble. Jose Rodriguez wrapped up three tackles for loss, including a seven-yard sack.

Albion, off to a 3-0 start for the first time since 2001, jumps into its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association schedule with an Oct. 3 at Hope College.
