No. 16 Thomas More Defeats Hanover, 84-7, on Record Setting Day at BB&T Field

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The 16th-ranked Thomas More College football team set four school records in an 84-7 win over traditional rival Hanover College today (Saturday, September 12, 2015) in a non-conference game at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 2-0 and with the loss, the Panthers fall to 0-2.

The Saints set team records for points in a game (84), points in a half (63 in first half) and touchdowns in a game (12).  The 12 touchdowns came on the day the Saints were honoring Mitch Kramer, who wore No. 12 and passed way in August.  Senior wide receiver Goose Cohorn (Independence, Ky./Dixie Heights) had three catches to increase his career total to 112 and set the new Thomas More career record for receptions.

Thomas More never trailed in the game as it led 21-0 after one quarter, 55-0 at halftime and 77-0 after three quarters.

Sophomore running back C.T. Tarrant (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton) scored two touchdowns on a 14-yard run and three-yard run.  Cohorn had three touchdown catches of 13-yards, 13-yards and 14-yards, while senior wide receiver Tyler Vogelpohl (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) had a touchdown catch of five-yards.  Junior running back Myron Fears, Jr. (Atlanta, Ga./Heritage) had touchdown runs of six-yards and one-yard, while freshman running back Hjavier Pitts (Mt. Healthy, Ohio/Mt. Healthy) and a one-yard touchdown run and junior running back Gabe Rice (Cincinnati, Ohio/Norwood) had a one-yard touchdown run.  The Saint also had two defensive scores as senior defensive back Ian Gunn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) had a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown and sophomore defensive back Johnny Lammers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) had a 36-yard interception return for a touchdown.  Senior place kicker Tommy Budke (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) was 10-for-10 in point after-attempts, while sophomore place kicker Zach Bryant (Milford, Ohio/Milford) and freshman place kicker Ford Byrd (Miami, Ohio/Palmetto) each had one PAT.

Thomas More out-gained Hanover 623 yards (395 rushing/228 passing) to 188 yards (34 rushing/154 passing).

Sophomore quarterback Brenan Kuntz (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) was 13-of-18 passing for 228 yards and three touchdowns.  Tarrant led the team on the ground with 130 yard and two touchdowns on 14 carries, while Pitts had nine rushes for 81 yards and a touchdown.  Cohorn had three catches for 50 yards and two touchdowns, while Vogelpohl had three catches for 45 yards and one touchdown and senior wide receiver Jeremy Duncan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) had 55 yards on two catches.

Junior defensive lineman Danny Scholz, Jr. (Cincinnati, Ohio/New Richmond) led the defense with eight tackles (one solo, seven assisted), including a half sack.  Junior defensive lineman Rodderick Darden (Denver, Ga./Heritage) had five tackles (three solo, two assisted), including two tackles, while sophomore defensive lineman Nate Hull (Franklin, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) had four tackles (three solo, one assisted) and sophomore linebacker Tre' Tunstill (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) had four tackles (two solo, two assisted).

Thomas More closes out its three-game home stand next Saturday (September 19) when it hosts Thiel College in both teams' Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener.  Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at BB&T Field.
