WATERVILLE, Maine -- Alex Kretzschmar, who was at St. Ambrose (Iowa) University the past two years, was named assistant coach for the Colby College football team Monday.
Kretzschmar will work with the quarterbacks for Colby head coach Jonathan Michaeles.
Kretzschmar was the wide receivers coach for the varsity, worked with special teams, and was the head coach of the junior varsity team (in 2014) in his two years at St. Ambrose. While coaching at the Davenport, Iowa, school, Kretzschmar earned his master's degree in organizational leadership in May.
"Alex comes to Colby with an array of coaching experience at the Division III and NAIA," Michaeles said. "He has a solid background coaching offensive skills and comes highly recommended as a coach, a person, and recruiter. He is a welcome addition to the staff."
Kretzschmar also was an assistant coach in charge of wide receivers at North Park University in 2012. His other coaching experience was in 2010 as a student coach at St. Norbert (Wis.) College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration.
A three-year letter winner at St. Norbert, Kretzschmar played wide receiver. He earned a coaches award during his final season.
