Guilford Welcomes Five More Newcomers to Football Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College head football coach Chris Rusiewicz announced the intention of five more incoming students to play football for the Quakers Tuesday. The announcement gives Guilford 21 new students who have paid their deposits to Guilford and will enroll for classes in August.

Dylan Hilemon (Mars Hill, N.C.) lettered three seasons at Madison High School under coach Mark Gosnell. The 6-2, 235-pound tight end/linebacker helped his team share the 2012 Western Highlands Conference championship and win a school-record 13 games. Hilemon twice earned all-conference and as a senior led the Patriots in tackles (84) and receiving (24 receptions, 404 yards, 2 TD). He also earned all-conference basketball honors and led the 2014-15 team in scoring and assists. Hilemon plans to major in criminal justice

Matt Pickens (Winterville, N.C.) lettered the two years at South Central High School under coach Timothy Carter. The 6-1, 240-pound lineman is in the National Honors Society and plans to major in business.

Jakory Rashid (East Point, Ga.) lettered two years at Westlake High School under coach Bryan Love. The 5-11, 230-pound fullback helped his team win the 2014 6A Region 3 Conference championship. Rashid received all-6A Region 3 recognition in 2014 and played on the best team in Westlake history. He was captain of the wrestling team, wrestled as a heavyweight and lettered for two years. He plans to major in mathematics.

Nathan Stoner (Greensboro, N.C.) played four years at Southern Guilford High School under coach Darryl Brown. The 6-1, 195-pound quarterback helped his team win the 2014 Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference title. Stoner graduated with the school record for most total offensive yards (5,825) in a season. He led the Piedmont 3A Conference in passing with the third-highest season total in school history. He earned all-conference honors as a senior. A member of Southern Guilford's Honors program, he plans to major in business at Guilford.

Taron Wallace (Havelock, N.C.) lettered at Havelock High School under former Quakers quarterback Jim Bob Bryant. The 5-8, 160-pound defensive back played on Havelock's state championship teams from 2011-2013 and the Bears' 2014 state finalists. The team also won Coastal 3A Conference title from 2011-2014. Wallace also participated on the track team.

Guilford opens the 2015 season Sept. 5 against Greensboro College in the Gate City Soup Bowl at Jamieson Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
