Bearcats fall on Senior Day to Westminster

More news about: St. Vincent

The Westminster Titans defeated the Saint Vincent football team by a score of 28-14 on Senior Day in Latrobe.

The Bearcats struggled from the start with cold and wet conditions.  A roughing call on a Bearcat punt kept the game's opening drive alive, but SVC eventually turned the ball over on downs.  Westminster took just four plays to score, with a 36-yard keeper by quarterback Paul Columbo just ahead of a 26-yard pass from Columbo to Cody Alward for a touchdown.

A fumble by SVC on the next possession gave the ball back to the Titans at the Bearcat 44, and Kimu Kim scored on a run from one-yard out on a fourth and goal, making it 14-0 in favor of the visitors with 3:22 left in the opening quarter.

With just over five minutes left in the second quarter, SVC's TJ Feeney sacked Columbo at the Westminster 4, forcing a punt.  SVC took over at the Westminster 26, and Borgen promptly hit Dustin Lowman, who made a diving catch into the end zone from 26 yards out, to cut the margin in half, 14-7.

In the third quarter, a Todd Jeter interception gave the Titans the ball at their own 27, and they drove 73 yards in 11 plays, with Columbo connecting with Taran Sifontes-Lavine for a 25-yard scoring strike to make it a 21-7 game.

SVC was stopped on the ensuing drive, and Mark McCracken's punt was blocked by Todd Whyte, recovered by Westminster at the Bearcat 5-yard-line.  Two plays later, tight end  John Jones caught a Columbo pass for a touchdown and the score was 28-7.

Late in the third, the Bearcats put together their best drive of the day, going 80 yards in 9 plays, capped by a Shavonta Craft 1-yard run.  The Morgan Porter extra point made it 28-14, but neither team was able to add points in the fourth quarter.

Craft led the SVC offense with 93 yards rushing on 21 carries, while Borgen ran for 45 yards on 11 carries.   Borgen attempted 44 passes, completing 26 for 191 yards.  DJ Oceant-Kelly had 13 catches for 42 yards, while Bronson Przybilinski had 4 receptions for 55 yards.

Defensively, Matt McCarthy had 9 tackles, while Nick Revis had 8.

With the win, Westminster is now 2-4 in the PAC, 2-6 overall.  Saint Vincent falls to 3-3 in the conference, 3-5 overall.
