Do, Stekol Reach Milestones in Finale at Redlands

More news about: Occidental

REDLANDS — Samuel Stekol moved up the all-time Occidental career receiving yards list and Kwame Do broke 1,000 yards rushing for the second season in a row.

But the Tigers couldn't keep up with a good Redlands team in a 54-28 loss in their season finale at Ted Runner Stadium on Saturday.

The Tigers finish 5-4 overall and in third place in the SCIAC At 4-3.

Stekol, a senior who's been hampered with injuries for the last three weeks of the season, passed Matthew Tuckness in career receiving yards, moving up to No. 3 all-time. Stekol finishes his career with 2,414 yards, trailing only Jon Finstuen (2,566) and Rick Fry (3,002). He caught seven passes for 60 yards, including a touchdown, against the Bulldogs.

Do rushed for 154 yards and one Touchdown on 25 carries. One season after setting Oxy's single season rushing record with 1,325 yards, the junior had an impressive encore performance in 2014, racking up 1,076 yards and eight touchdowns.

Oxy quarterback Bryan Scott threw for 124 yards and one touchdown on 21 for 35 passing. The Tigers struggled throwing the ball down the field for most of the game, something they haven't had much of a problem with all year. Coming into the game, Oxy ranked 25th in the country in passing offense (289.9 yards per game).

On the other side of the ball, the Tigers had trouble stopping the Bulldogs on the ground and in the air, giving up 587 yards of total offense.

Oxy senior quarterback Tommy Edwards, who's missed most of the past two seasons with injuries, put together a throwback performance, going 10 for 19 for 116 yards and two touchdowns after taking over in the second half.

Edwards threw for 2,928 yards and was an All-SCIAC selection in 2012. In 2013, he broke his arm in Week 3 and suffered a similar injury in Week 1 this year that's kept him off of the field.

Cordell Harris led Oxy with 107 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Dallas Gosselin had a sack and Nicholas McHugh led the Tigers with seven tackles. Marcus McDuffiehad an interception in the first half.

The Tigers lose 17 players to graduation.
