Gebhart and Cohorn Break Career Record in Saints' 21-14 Win at Waynesburg

(WAYNESBURG, Pa.) – Junior quarterback Jensen Gebhardt (Kings Mills, Ohio/Kings) and junior wide receiver Goose Cohorn (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton)broke a pair of Thomas More College career records today (Saturday, November 1, 2014) and the Saints defeated Waynesburg, 21-14, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Wiley Stadium in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Saints improve to 7-2 overall and 6-1 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 7-2 overall and 5-2 in the PAC.

Thomas More never trailed in the game as it led 7-0 after one quarter, 14-7 at halftime and 21-7 after three quarters.

Gebhardt broke the career touchdown passing record in the third quarter when he completed a 51-yard touchdown pass to Cohorn for his 51st career touchdown pass.  He broke offensive coordinator Trevor Stellman's previous mark of 50.  With his 121 receiving yards today, Cohorn increased his career total to 1,780 yards to break the previous career mark of 1,748, which was held by Todd Naumann.

Thomas More took a 7-0 lead with 8:48 to play in the first quarter when freshman running back CT Tarrant (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hamilton (Ohio)) scored on an eight-yard run and junior place kicker Tommy Budke (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) added the point after attempt.

The Saints extended the lead to 14-0 when senior running back Domonique Hayden (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Christian Academy) scored on a six-yard run and Budke PAT with 11:43 to play in the second quarter.

Waynesburg cut the lead to 14-7 at halftime when Zac Capan scored on a 14-yard pass from Carter Hill and Scott Lewiss added the PAT with 30-seconds to play in the second quarter.

Thomas More increased the lead to 21-7 with 5:59 to play in the third quarter when Gebhardt connected on the 51-yard touchdown pass to Cohorn and Budke added the PAT.

The Yellow Jackets cut the lead to 21-14 with 9:09 to play in the game when Hill connected on a four-yard pass to Andrew English and Lewis added the PAT.  That would be as close as they would come.

Thomas More out-gained Waynesburg 478 yards (199 rushing/279 passing) to 266 yards (45 rushing/221 passing).

Gebhardt finished the game 15-of-23 passing for 279 yards and one touchdown.  Hayden finished the game with 29 carries for 142 yard and one touchdown, while Cohorn had four catches for 121 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively the Saints were led by sophomore defensive back Lemuel Weyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) and sophomore linebacker Austin Copeland (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings), who each had six tackles.  Sophomore defensive back Kyle Fuller (Taylor Mill, Ky./Holy Cross), junior defensive lineman Tyler Ellis (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) and freshman linebacker Tre' Tunstill (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) each added five tackles.

Thomas More closes out the regular season next Saturday (November 8) as it hosts Case Western Reserve University.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
