JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica Saints football team defeated MacMurray College by a score of 55-7 Saturday afternoon behind a four touchdown day for quarterback Tyler Harper and a stingy defense allowing just 244 total yards on the day.

There was only one first quarter score in the game despite the lopsided score. It came with 5:36 remaining left in the quarter when Harper found wide receiver Spencer Specht for a six yard touchdown connection putting the Saints up 7-0 after the Mike Theismann extra point.

Once the second quarter began CSS poured on the onslaught capping the first of six straight scoring drives with a 29 yard field goal by Theismann setting the score at 10-0 Saints.

CSS would then add two touchdowns by freshman running back Preston Robinson one on a five yard run and another on a 24 yard touchdown pass by Harper. After two Theismann kicks the score was set at 24-0 Saints on top with 3:44 left in the first half.

The Saints would add one more touchdown with just 38 seconds to go in the second quarter when Harper would find Andrew Smith for Harper's third touchdown strike of the game this one going for 12 yards setting the halftime score at 31-0 CSS comfortably on top.

The second half would see the last two of the six consecutive scoring drives. First Shane Finnegan would hook up with Harper for a seven yard touchdown pass. Finnegan was a large part of last week's homecoming game victory vs. Northwestern and has recently been named to the D3football.com team of the week. The second score of the quarter and sixth straight score for CSS came when Hunter Thompson ran in for a six yard scamper setting the score at 45-0.

Theismann would make the score 48-0 with an incredible 44 yard field goal tying his career high and school record set by Theismann himself in 2012.

After MacMurray scored on a four yard run by Coy Dorothy late in the fourth quarter, Kenneth Jinkins would take the ensuing kickoff 92 yards for the final score of the game with 1:54 left in the fourth quarter setting the final score at St. Scholastica 55 MacMurray 7.

Harper's final stats saw him complete 18-of-33 passes for 218 yards and four touchdowns, while Thompson led the way on the ground with 14 carries for 90 yards. Dorothy had 72 total yards to lead all rushers for MacMurray.

CSS (6-0, 5-0 UMAC) will be in action again next week when they take on Martin Luther College on the road in New Ulm, Minnesota. The game is set to begin at 2 p.m.
