Luther Rolls to 49-21 Victory over Grinnell College

For the first time since 1987 the Luther College football team is 3-0. This afternoon, the Norse rolled to a 49-21 victory over the Pioneers of Grinnell College.

It was Military Appreciation Day and the Norse honored all veterans and current military personnel by wearing black and blue camouflage uniforms.

At the end of the day, Luther tied the school's single game rushing record with 579 yards, thanks to six touchdown runs of 44-plus yards . Head Coach Aaron Hafner used 10 different ball carriers that combined for an average of 10.2 yards per carry.

Josh Vos and Christian Moore had career afternoons. Vos rushed for a career high 219 yards on nine carries. He reached the end zone three times on runs  89, 44 and 59 yards. 

Moore also went over the 100-yard mark finishing with a career best 136. Moore busted loosed for a 47-yard touchdown run, as well as a five-yard plunge. 

Not to be outdone, Alex Hain scored on a 78-yard run, while Dedrick Lee II scored his first collegiate touchdown on a 45-yard scamper.

Alex Knutson was a perfect 7-for-7 in PATs, also a career best.

Caleb Freund led a defensive unit that held the Pioneers scoreless for the second and third quarters. Freund tallied a game high 18 tackles. Jackson Vankirk was next with eight, while linebacker Aric Elton finished with 7. Luke Pulliam recorded his second career interception.

Luther is off next week. The Norse begin Iowa Conference action when they will host University of Dubuque on Saturday, Oct. 4. Kick-off will take place in Carlson Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
