Hope Football Edged In Overtime In MIAA Opener

Quarterback Robert Kish threw for three touchdowns and rushed for one more, but the Hope College football team lost at Albion 37-36 in overtime on Saturday.

The Flying Dutchmen fell to 2-2 overall after dropping their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener.

Junior quarterback Rob Kish of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan (Grosse Pointe South HS), threw for three touchdowns and rushed for one more. He finished with 247 yards passing.

Kish's 1-yard touchdown plunge in overtime cut Hope's deficit to 37-36. Albion, however, blocked the PAT attempt after also blocking a Hope field goal on the final play of regulation to force overtime.

Kish completed touchdown passes to three difference receivers – 15 yards to senior Taylor Brynaert of Washington, Michigan (Romeo HS), 59 yards to sophomore Damon Thomas of Fenton, Michigan (Fenton HS), and 14 yards to junior Matt Kroll of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS) 

Thomas finished a team-high 94 yards receiving on two catches. Kroll had a team-high six receptions for 77 yards.

Sophomore running back Zac Boersema of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS), rushed for 99 yards on 19 carries, including a 5-yard touchdown run.

Senior linebacker Cody Lindemulder of Mulliken, Michigan (Lakewood HS), made 11 tackles to lead the Flying Dutchmen. He had eight solo tackles, two for loss and one sack.

Hope returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 11, when the Flying Dutchmen host Rockford (Illinois) in nonleague play.
