Saint-Juste paces Falcons with pair of touchdown in non-conference victory

FITCHBURG, Mass. (September 12, 2014) - The Fitchburg State football team was in action this evening, defeating Curry College, 21-7 in non-conference action before a sold out crowd at Elliot Field.

Following a scoreless first half, Fitchburg State broke a 0-0 stalemate with 5:02 remaining in the third quarter as junior running back Kendall Perry (Central Falls, R.I.) capped a six play, 46 yard drive with a three yard run up the middle for his first touchdown of the season to put the Falcons up 7-0 going into the fourth quarter of play.

Fitchburg State double its lead (14-0) 11 minutes into the final stanza when sophomore quarterback Garrett Dellechiaie (Leominster, Mass.) hit senior Phillip Saint-Juste (New Rochelle, N.Y.) on a jump ball in the back of the end zone on a six yard pass.

Curry College cut the deficit in half with 3:12 remaining in the contest as sophomore Sean Conroy (Derry, N.H.) found classmate Jake Cawlina (Danvers, Mass.) in the left corner of the end zone to make the score 14-7.

The Green and Gold put the game out of reach on the en-suing kick-off as Saint-Juste fielded the line drive onside kick at his own 49 yard line and went 51 yards down the near sideline for a touchdown, resulting in the 21-7 final.

Dellechiaie went 23-for-32 for 291 yards, with one TD and one interception. Senior Ty Spencer (Foxboro, Mass.) finished with eight catches for 129 yards, while sophomore Devin Summiel (Tewksbury, Mass,) collected six receptions for 112 yards. Conroy finished the day 16-for-36 for 79 yards, one touchdown pass. Senior Jordan Shairs (Gloucester, Mass.) led Curry on the ground, carrying 15 times for 33 yards, while Cawlina hauled in four passed for 47 yards and one TD.

Junior Luis Feliz (Clinton, Mass.) led the Falcons' defense with nine tackles (3 solo, six assists), while sophomore Nathan Hollie (Naugatuck, Conn.) had 2.5 tackles for loss for nine yards among his seven total tackles. The Colonels were led by freshman Devin Williams (Gardner, Mass.), who amassed a game-high 11 tackles (six solo, five assists), while senior Jose Rodriquez (Taunton, Mass.) was also solid tor Curry, making 11 tackles (5 solo, six assists).

Fitchburg State (2-0, 0-0 MASCAC) resumes play next Friday, hosting MASCAC rival Framingham State for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. Curry (0-2, 0-0 NEFC) returns to action next Saturday, when it hosts 12th ranked Hobart College at 1:00 p.m.
