More news about: Middlebury

Middlebury football student-athlete McCallum Foote (Newton, Mass.) has been named one of just 29 fall male student-athletes from around the nation in all three divisions to be awarded a National Collegiate Athletic Association Postgraduate Scholarship.

An economics major with a 3.50 grade point average, Foote graduated in February as one of the most accomplished players in Middlebury football history. Next month, he has been selected to take part in the NFL Super Regional Combine where representatives from all 32 teams will be in attendance. The event will be held on April 12-13 in Detroit at Ford Field.

In December, Foote was named one of four finalists for the 2013 Gagliardi Trophy given to the most outstanding football player in NCAA Division III. The Gagliardi Trophy, given annually since 1993, recognizes excellence in athletics, academics and community service. He was also named a CoSIDA District I Academic All-American.

On the gridiron, Foote was a two-time NESCAC Offensive Player of the Year and a D3football.com All-East first-team honoree, earning first-team All-NESCAC honors for three years. In 2013, he led the NESCAC in passing yards (2,766), touchdown passes (26), and completions per game (32.38).

Foote also led the nation in completions per game and ranked second in all of Division III in passing yards per game (345.8). He is one of three players in NESCAC history to win the conference's Player of the Year twice. During his 23 career games at quarterback, Foote earned a NESCAC-record seven Player of the Week nods, winning the award in 30% of the games he played. Foote was a three-time recipient of the "Gold Helmet" given weekly to the top New England performers in Division II/III. The award is given by the New England Football Writers' Gridiron Club of Greater Boston.

At the completion of his three-year career, Foote finds his name atop the Panther record books with 77 touchdown passes. He also ranks second in program history in pass attempts (1,187), completions (742), yards (8,083) and completion percentage (62.5%).
