WATERVILLE, Maine --- Shane Fogarty, a former player and assistant coach for the University of Connecticut, was named offensive coordinator for the Colby College football team on Monday.

Fogarty had two assistant coaching stints at the University of Connecticut.  He coached the safeties last season and also assisted with the special teams.

Fogarty was a graduate assistant for the Huskies and coached the defensive backs and linebackers for the 2010 BIG EAST championship team and the 2011 squad.

"We couldn't be more excited about Shane joining Colby football," Colby head coach Jonathan Michaeles said. "He is a bright young football mind who is a great addition to our staff and will fit well into the Colby community. He brings a wealth of experience at the Division I level combined with Division III and NESCAC experience."

Fogarty, who earned his bachelor's degree from Connecticut in 2006 and a master's degree in 2012, started his coaching career in the NESCAC at Trinity College. He worked with linebackers in 2006 and 2007 and running backs and special teams in 2008. Fogarty helped the Bantams win the NESCAC title in 2008.

During his time at Trinity, Fogarty left the school for about five months (February-June 2008) to be the head coach of the Carinthian Black Lions in the Austrian League.

After leaving Trinity in January 2009, Fogarty went to Norwich University to coach the wide receivers. He helped the Cadets win the East Coast Football Conference title.

Fogarty went back to Connecticut to earn his master's degree. He was a member of the staff in 2010 that led the Huskies to the conference title and an appearance in the Fiesta Bowl.

Fogarty's next stop was at Fordham University as the special teams coordinator and tight end coach from December 2011 to June 2013.

During his collegiate playing days, Fogarty played quarterback for the Huskies. He earned the Joseph M. Giannelli Unsung Hero Award for a player who best displays effort, dedication, and steady performance without notice or acclaim.

A native of West Virginia, Fogarty led Morgantown High School to the 2001 championship in the state's biggest division. He had a 25-2 record as a starting quarterback and was a two-time all-state selection.
