Albright's Peterson Named to Associated Press Little All-America Team

More news about: Albright

Albright College football senior Drew Peterson has been named to the Associated Press Little All-America team, which honors players from Division II, III and NAIA.

Peterson was a third team selection at defensive back, and becomes the first Albright player to make the Little All-America team since punter Chris Morehouse in 1998. Morehouse went on to be a part-time starter for two seasons at Division I Georgia Tech.

The AP Little All-America team began in 1934, before the advent of multiple NCAA divisions, to represent the schools with smaller enrollment numbers that were overlooked on the national stage.

As Division II, and later Division III, were created, the Little All-America team evolved to honor the top players below Division I. Division II players currently make up a majority of the list.

A first team All-MAC selection at safety for the second straight year, Peterson tied for first in the nation with eight total interceptions. He had 133 return yards and a TD off those interceptions and added eight pass breakups for 16 passes defended.

Peterson had 46 tackles (26 solo) on the year, with one for loss. He totaled two interceptions vs. Kean, earning a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week. He also had two picks and returned one for a touchdown at FDU-Florham- his fourth career multi-INT game.

Peterson intercepted passes in two of Albright's biggest victories of the season- a 33-19 win over 2012 NCAA quarterfinalist Widener, and a 40-25 victory over #22 Lebanon Valley.

On special teams, the senior totaled 242 kick return yards (12 returns) and 116 punt return yards (17 returns). He concluded his career with 16 interceptions and four TD returns (3 INT, 1 punt). He is also a finalist for the Cliff Harris Small College Defensive Player of the Year award.

This is Peterson's third All-American selection of 2013. He was previously named to the AFCA Coaches All-American list, which recognizes only a first team, while also being named a second team BSN honoree.

Peterson has a chance to become a unanimous Division III All-American tomorrow evening, when the D3football.com team is announced.
