Tomcats celebrate Senior Parent Recognition Day

More news about: Thiel
GREENVILLE, Pa. – Senior running back Rich Kolesar (Waterford, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) scored a 2-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter to get the Thiel Tomcats within a touchdown of Thomas More College Saturday during Senior Parent Recognition Day at Alumni Stadium. Unfortunately, the Tomcats would get no closer, and the Saints went on to win the Presidents' Athletic Conference contest, 42-21.

On their first play from scrimmage after Kolesar's touchdown, the Saints reclaimed their 14-point lead when quarterback Jensen Gebhardt hit Goose Cohorn on a 63-yard touchdown pass.

Thomas More went on to score one more touchdown on the day, this one with 5:14 left in regulation, when Domonique Hayden scored on a 55-yard run.

Hayden had a tremendous game for the Saints. He ran for 252 yards on 27 carries and scored four touchdowns on the ground on runs of 27-, 58-, 9- and 55-yards.

The Saints opened scoring Saturday. After forcing Thiel three-and-out to open the game, Gebhardt threw a 54-yard touchdown pass to Bobby Leonard for the first score of the game.

Thiel answered on its next drive when Josh Potter (Chipley, Fla./Chipley) finished off a 7-play drive that consumed nearly 3:30 of clock with a 55-yard touchdown scamper.

The Saints held a 28-7 lead at the half, however, behind two of Hayden's long touchdown runs.

Thiel played determined and opportunistically in the second half. After forcing the Saints to go three-and-out during the first possession of the third quarter, Ryan Radke(Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster Central) threw a 75-yard touchdown pass to Tim Walker (Beachwood, Ohio/Warrensville Heights) to cut Thomas More's lead down to 28-14.

The Tomcats scored again early in the fourth quarter on Kolesar's 2-yarder, but the Saints controlled the remainder of the game.

Gebhardt completed 17 of 28 passes for 266 yards. He threw two touchdown passes. He also ran for 64 yards on seven carries. Radke completed eight passes for 137 yards. He threw one touchdown pass and also ran for 83 yards on 15 carries.

Josh Wannamaker (Derry, Pa./Derry) ran 15 times for 78 yards while Potter carried 12 times for 62 yards, including a 55-yard touchdown run.

Thomas More's Leonard caught six passes for 113 yards while Cohorn caught four passes for 98 yards. Tim Walker (Beachwood, Ohio/Warrensville Heights) led Thiel with two catches for 82 yards, one of which was a 75-yard touchdown catch.

Thiel freshman safety Travell Sherrod (Fruitland Park, Fla./Leesburg) recorded two interceptions in the game. They were the first two interceptions of his young career, and he became the first Tomcat this season to notch two picks in one game.

Walt Litwin (Linesville, Pa./Linesville) led Thiel's defense with nine tackles while Adam Rauch recorded eight stops for Thomas More.

The Tomcats (1-6, 1-4 PAC) are idle next week. They will return to action Saturday, Nov. 2 when they travel to Bethany, W.Va. to take on the Bison at 1 p.m.
