Austin Duncan had his fourth 100-yard plus rushing game of the season. But a bruising Concordia team took advantage of some early opportunities and some key HU injuries to record a 63-7 decision at Klas Field Saturday.
Duncan gained 109 yards on 21 carries to run his league leading total to 857 yards for the season. The sophomore continues to lead the MIAC in Rushing Attempts (182), Yards Gained and Yards per Game (142.9). The Pipers did well on the ground all day, gaining 179 yards on 43 total attempts. QB Tim Bona got off to a great start, connecting on his first six passing attempts. But he was shaken up in the second quarter by a tough hit and didn't return to the game.
The Cobbers, ranked No. 24 in the country, had a balanced rushing attack with 342 yards gained on 48 attempts. They also passed for 139 yards, finishing the day with 481 yards total offense.
Anthony Hill, who was named the MIAC's Defensive Athlete of the Week for his effort in the win at St. Olaf, had another outstanding performance, recording 18 tackles (10 unassisted).
It was 21-0 in the first quarter when the Pipers went on a crisp 75 yard, six play drive for their lone score of the afternoon. Bona, who completed three passes and ran for 18 yards on another play, found a breaking Hoyfal Adam (3) for the 27 yard scoring play.
Hamline has another tough task next Saturday when they play at No. 9 St. Thomas. Game time at O'Shaughnessy Field is 1:00 p.m.
