Martello Named ODAC Defensive Player of the Week

VOTE CUA FOR PLAY OF THE WEEK

WASHINGTON - Catholic University senior linebacker Ralph Martello was named Old Dominion Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, Sept. 30.

Martello put together a strong day to lead the Catholic defense in its 49-0 shutout of Anna Maria on Saturday. Martello led the unit with 12 stops, including seven solo and one behind the line of scrimmage. He accounted two of the three turnovers forced by the Cardinals. At the end of the first quarter, Martello intercepted an AMCAT pass and stalled a promising Anna Maria drive in CUA territory. In the third quarter, Martello forced a recovered a fumble near midfield. The turnover setup the Cardinals final score of the game. Martello is currently second on the squad with 15 stops, while his two forced and recovered fumbles lead CUA.

Martello is the first Cardinal to receive a ODAC Player of the Week honor.

Catholic is now 3-0 on the season, with their first conference game of the season taking place on Saturday, Oct. 5 in Hampden-Sydney, Va., against the Hampden-Sydney Tigers at 1:00 p.m.
