SCHENECTADY, NY -- The "other" season begins
for the Union College football team Saturday, as the Dutchmen open
Liberty League play against St. Lawrence University at Frank Bailey
Field. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
The Saints come in with a 2-1 mark as they also open league play.
Union has a 33-16-5 lead in the series that began in 1907, and the
Dutchmen won last season in Canton, 31-20, led by three passing
touchdowns by QB Connor Eck. The Dutchmen
defense has been strong, especially in the second half, as Union
has allowed just two field goals in the second half through the
first two games. Union is second in the Liberty League in rushing
defense. The Saints come in as the league's leading pass defense
and overall defense. Joshua Rose leads the squad with 15 tackles
and Thomas Hayes, Jake
LaRovera, Casey Muse and Jake
Lebowitz all have 10 or more stops. Muse ahs three
tackles for losses and Hayes has an interception.
Union comes off a 17-3 home defeat to Ithaca while the Saints
suffered their first loss last week, 28-23 at SUNY Morrisville.
Union has started 0-2 for the third straight year but gets hot once
league play starts, as the Dutchmen have won six of the last seven
games in each of the 2011 and 2012 seasons. Every game the rest of
the way is in league play.
The game will be live on The Dutchmen Radio Network, WABY-AM
1160 and WPTR-AM (CBS Sports Radio Sporty 1240 AM).
