ALBION, Mich. – Darrin Williams scored from three yards out with eight minutes left to play and the defense never let Defiance College across the 50-yard line from that point as Albion College escaped with a 32-29 victory in its first ever home night game at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium.
Defiance took a 29-25 lead when quarterback Alex Larson ran into the end zone from a yard out with 13:10 left in the fourth.
Defiance finished with 513 yards, but the Albion defense scored twice. Chris Jakubik returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter and Mike Vandermus stripped the ball from Brian Mircovich and took it 33 yards for a score in the third.
Darrin Williams scored a pair of touchdowns for the Britons, reaching the end zone on runs from 10 and 3 yards. He finished with 83 yards on 16 carries.
Albion continues non-league play Sept. 14 at Wheaton (Ill.) College.
