DEFIANCE, Ohio – Roughly one month after the first piece of sod was lifted at Defiance College's Justin F. Coressel Stadium, the installation of a brand new synthetic turf playing surface has been completed.

The UBU turf was installed by Maumee Bay Turf Center and will get its first taste of action on March 2 of 2013, when the DC men's and women's lacrosse programs welcome Baldwin-Wallace for a doubleheader. Along with hosting home football and lacrosse contests, the field will also be capable of hosting soccer and field hockey events.

The improvements inside Coressel Stadium did not stop with the new playing surface, as the facility also now boasts a resurfaced javelin, shot put and high jump area for the outdoor track and field programs at Defiance College.

The completion of the turf project at Justin F. Coressel Stadium comes on the heels of the installation of new bleachers and a refinished floor inside the Karl H. Weaner Community Center in October. Those two projects are the latest in a string of significant upgrades to the athletics facilities for DC in the past 16 months, joining the opening of the George M. Smart Athletic Center and the resurfacing of the Dix Outdoor Tennis Facility.
