More news about: Benedictine

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - Two different individuals logged over 100 yards on the ground as the Benedictine University football team wrapped up the 2012 campaign with a 28-3 road win at Lakeland on Saturday.

Trailing 3-0 following a lengthy opening drive by Lakeland, the Eagles responded with a nine-play drive to take the lead when John Borsellino scooted across the goal line from one yard out. Benedictine never trailed the remainder of the day, scoring 21 points in the second half to put away the win.

Borsellino's 50-yard breakaway helped to setup an eight yard dive to open the second half. Taking advantage of a short field late in the fourth following a 17-yard punt, John Alessi scampered in from 38 yards away to extend the lead to 21-3 with 5:17 left. Benedictine recovered the ensuing kick and quarterback Cyle Schultz dove in from a yard out to finish the scoring with 2:19 to play.

Benedictine accumulated 271 total yards rushing in the contest and 345 total yards. Borsellino surpassed 100 yards for the fifth time this season, carrying 21 times for 129 yards and a pair of scores. Alessi also crossed north of 100 yards, amassing 104 on 17 touches with a touchdown. The Eagles threw the ball just 12 times on the day.

Defensively, the Eagles forced one turnover. Chris Buonavolanto was the lone individual to record double digit tackles with 10. Ben Lockton recorded a pair of sacks among 2.5 tackles for loss.

Benedictine closed the season 5-5, the fourth consecutive season of .500 or better. The Eagles were 3-4 in conference play, finishing fifth.
