Pioneers run over Pointers.

More news about: UW-Platteville

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers (8-2, 5-2 WIAC) used a highly productive running game and a dominant defense to take down the UW-Stevens Point Pointers 57-7.

Pioneer senior running back Hank McIvor had a day for the Pioneers, collecting 153 yards on 26 carries and three touchdowns. McIvor's yards and carries were new single-game season highs for the Pioneers, and the three touchdowns were also tied for a single-game season high.

McIvor and sophomore quarterback Bryce Corrigan paced the offense, which accumulated a season-high 658 yards.

McIvor was aided in the running game by senior running back Travis Nelson, who rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries.
Corrigan continued his successful year through the air, going 36-47 with two touchdowns.

Senior wide receiver Paul Reit and junior wide receiver Ryley Bailey were Corrigan's favorite targets on the day. Reit and Bailey had ten catches, one touchdown apiece and combined for 210 receiving yards.

The Pioneers defense was equally as impressive. The Pointers only accumulated six first downs in the contest, and the defense shut out the Pointer offense, as UW-SP's only points came from an interception return for a touchdown.

Senior linebacker Dave Daino led the team with seven tackles and senior defensive back Tommy Magna had an interception for the second week in a row, giving him three on the season.

The Pioneers built a 17-0 lead, and kept the Pointers off the scoreboard until midway through the second quarter. After the Pointers score, UW-Platteville rattled off 40 straight points.

The Pioneers have finished the regular season 8-2, the best record they've had under current head coach Mike Emendorfer, and on the bubble for a berth in the NCAA Division-III Football Championship Tournament.

The selection show for the tournament airs on NCAA.com Sunday, Nov. 11, at 5 p.m.
