Macalester keeps Paint Bucket trophy

Macalester scored on two of its first three possessions and went on to gain a 45-21 win at Hamline.  The Scots win the Paint Bucket trophy for the second year in a row and wrap up the season with a 6-4 mark, their second winning record in three years.

 

The Scots out-gained the Pipers in total yardage 519-303 and first downs 31-14, and led the entire way, in this, the 113th meeting between these two Snelling Ave. neighbors.  Clark Bledsoe (Sr., Jacksonville, Fla. / Episcopal) tossed three touchdown passes to bring his school-record career total to 47.  Sam Marshall (Sr., Sun Prairie, Wis.) caught eight passes for 77 yards and two touchdowns, while C.J. Smith (Jr., Ashland, Wis.) pulled in five passes for 112 yards.

 

Mike Adams (Sr., Chippewa Falls, Wis.) ran 18 times for 153 yards and T. Joe Loiselle (Sr., Chippewa Falls, Wis.) gained ran for 99 yards and two scores on 23 carries.  Loiselle wraps up his career as Macalester's all-time leader in rushing yardage with 3,660 and touchdowns with 32.  Adams established Macalester single season marks for average yards a carry (7.7) and average yards a punt return (14.8).

 

Spencer Robinson (Sr., Chattaroy, Wash. / Riverside) led the defense with seven tackles and finishes as the team leader with 65, and Reid Callahan (Jr., Atlanta, Ga. / St. Pius X) registered his eighth QB sack of the year.  Joe Dykema (Jr., Roseville, Minn.) and Konnor Fleming (So., Charlotte, Vt.. / Champlain Valley Union) picked off Hamline passes.

 

Hamline was led by Austin Duncan with 88 rushing yards and a touchdown.

 

The Scots led 14-0 at the conclusion of the first quarter and on the season commanded a dominant 114-21 first-quarter scoring advantage.  Mac led 28-14 at halftime, 28-21 after three quarters of play, and out-scored Hamline 17-0 in the fourth quarter.

 

Macalester records its sixth 40-point game of the season and sets a school record by averaging 34.2 per game.  Defensively, the Scots surrendered only 19.4 points per game, the best at the school since 1988.  Mac averaged 405 yards in offensive production a game and yielded 282.
