More news about: Redlands

For the second week in a row, the University of Redlands football team shut out its opponent, with Saturday's impressive victory coming in a 70-0 thrashing over the winless Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in Claremont.  Behind a relentless offensive line, the Bulldogs racked up 336 rushing yards, with freshman running back Curtis Tanquary (San Jose, CA) and junior running back Alex Bell (Davis, CA) each eclipsing the century mark and scoring three touchdowns.

Bell impressed with the first three scores of his Redlands career, carrying the ball 12 times for a team-high 121 yards.  Tanquary finished the day with 109 yards on 16 carries for the highest output of his young career as a Bulldog.

The Maroon and Gray wasted no time as it broke into the Sagehen end zone on six of its first seven drives, creating a 42-0 halftime lead.  The Bulldogs took care of business through the final whistle, amassing 25 first downs and 518 yards of total offense in the victory.

In addition, the Bulldog defense held the Sagehens scoreless as they accumulated just over 200 yards of total offense.  Junior defensive linemanSteven Locke Jr. (Barstow, CA) spearheaded the play-stopping endeavor with eight tackles.

With nearly every player contributing to the total-team triumph, Redlands freshmen scored on five occasions.  Tanquary accounted for three touchdowns, while freshman quarterback Mitch Samson (Orangevale, CA) and freshman running back Andre Ramirez (Corcoran, CA) also made their way into the promise land.  Overall, Samson was a perfect 4-for-4 through the air for 49 yards while revealing his poise and maturity as one of the Maroon and Gray's play-callers.

Furthermore, the Redlands offense saw senior quarterback Chad Hurst(Dixon, CA) find senior wide receiver Mark Richardson II (Los Angeles, CA) on a 46-yard strike into the Sagehen end zone.  By the end of the half, Hurst had tallied 111 yards on just six passes.

Finally, the Bulldogs capped off the second-highest scoring effort in program history with a 30-yard pick-six play by junior defensive back Jessie Hobbs(San Diego, CA) late in the fourth quarter.

Overall, the kicking game was flawless, as junior Kevin Grady (Seattle, WA) led the effort with his eight kickoffs for 509 yards, including five touchbacks, to go along with a 7-for-7 showing on point-after-tries.  He and senior punterScotty Miller (La Mesa, CA) also excelled with punts of 47 and 42 yards, respectively.  Freshman Brandon Rominger (Santa Paula, CA) added to the performance with three kickoffs and a trio of PATs.

Redlands (5-3, 5-1 SCIAC) heads to Whittier College for the regular-season finale against the Poets at 1 p.m. on Nov. 10.
