IWU Football Loses Third Straight, Falls 22-7 to Augie

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan football team slipped to 6-3 overall and 3-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin after a 22-7 loss to Augustana at Tucci Stadium on Saturday (Nov. 3).

The Vikings won their fourth straight game and improved to 5-4 overall and 4-2 in the CCIW.

Augustana opened the scoring with 5:10 to play in the first quarter as Jawan Straughter ran in from 12 yards out to end a nine-play, 77-yard drive. Brady Rogers added the kick to give the Vikings a 7-0 lead.

Rogers hit on a 26-yard field goal with 12:54 to go in the first half to put Augustana ahead 10-0 before the Titans scored their only points of the day on a 16-yard TD pass to senior Tate Musselman from freshman Tyler Hook. Freshman Michael Kelley added the extra point and IWU trailed 10-7 with 10:39 to play in the half.

The next two Augustana scores were from long range. With 7:26 to play in the second, Kyle Snow caught a pass from Nick Welch and went 58 yards for a TD to give the Vikings a 16-7 edge.
With 2:07 before intermission, Eric Chandler had a 78 yard run after a catch of a pass from Welch to give Augustana a 22-7 lead at halftime.

There were no points scored in the second half.

Illinois Wesleyan amassed 257 yards in the game and allowed 441 to the Vikings. Hook was 8 for 22 for 80 yards and sophomore Tyrell Bolden was 2 of 3 passing for 13 yards. Devonte Jones was the game's leading rusher, going 104 yards on 17 carries.

Eric Chandler led Augustana with 45 rushing yards on 12 carries while Welch was 17 of 28 for 277 yards and the two touchdowns.

Tim Hollowed had eight total tackles to lead IWU while Chris Simms and Mike Heaton each accounted for seven. Augustana's Joe Spindler had seven total stops to lead his team defensively while John Draminski and Matt Glawe each recorded interceptions.

Illinois Wesleyan will play it final game of the season at Elmhurst, who were winners on Saturday and are 8-1 overall and 5-1 in the league. The Bluejays would be playing for a chance to be in the NCAA playoffs and earn a share of the CCIW title.
