Elmhurst Blanks North Park 31-0 For Seventh Victory

The Elmhurst football team won its fourth consecutive CCIW contest and improved to 7-1 on the season with a 31-0 shutout win over North Park University.

Scottie Williams totaled 200 yards of offense and scored all three of Elmhurst's offensive touchdowns to pace the Bluejays in the win.

Elmhurst (4-1 CCIW) limited North Park (1-6, 0-5 CCIW) to only 189 yards of total offense and took advantage of three North Park turnovers while compiling 444 yards of offense.

The Bluejays took the opening kickoff and drove 54 yards to the end zone. Williams capped the drive with a six-yard touchdown run to put the Bluejays on top 7-0.

Late in the first quarter, Williams gave the Bluejays a 14-point cushion by when he caught a 33-yard touchdown pass from Joe Furco.

The Bluejays had a chance to extend their lead late in the second quarter, but North Park turned the Bluejays away on a fourth-and-goal. After totaling only 27 yards for the first 27 minutes of the game, North Park mounted a drive at the end of the half, pushing the ball down to the Elmhurst five-yard line. After a sack by Wayyne Tuckson, the Vikings settles for a 30-yard field goal try from Tony Kebede, but a bad snap resulted in the kick missing wide to the right, allowing the Bluejays to lead 14-0 at the half.

After a North Park punt to start the second half, Elmhurst drove 80 yards in just six plays to take a 21-0 lead. Williams established a new Elmhurst single-season record for rushing touchdowns by scoring on a one-yard plunge.

After the Bluejays' were intercepted in the North Park end zone to kill a drive, the Elmhurst defense took advantage of a Vikings' turnover. North Park's Tyler Krebs threw a bad pitch on an option play and the Bluejays' John Eliades scooped up the loose ball and returned it eight yards for a defensive touchdown.

Elmhurst ate up almost eight minutes off the clock in the fourth quarter with a 78-yard, 16-play drive. The Bluejays drove to the North Park one-yard line and settled for a 19-yard field goal from David Tomis.

Williams carried 20 times for 150 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught three passes for 50 yards and a touchdown. Josh Williams added 14 carries for 65 yards. Furco completed 12-of-19 passes for 170 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 56 yards on five carries.

Matt Hassan led North Park's offense with 57 yards on 14 carries. Krebs finished with 39 yards on 19 carries. North Park managed just two drives longer than 30 yards for the entire game.

Wills Massie led Elmhurst's defense with 10 tackles, including four tackles for loss and two sacks. Tuckson added 10 tackles, including a sack while George DeMaria totaled nine tackles and a sack.

The Bluejays can tie a school record for wins in a season next week when they travel to Carthage College.
