Williams, Defense Shine As Albion Stings Kalamazoo

More news about: Albion

Darrin Williams rushed for 249 yards and a score, Dominic Bona's 46-yard pass set up his 2-yard touchdown run, and the defense allowed just 117 yards as Albion earned a 17-14 victory over Kalamazoo in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association football action.

Albion took the second half kickoff to the Kalamazoo 1-yard line, but Bona and Williams did not make a clean handoff and Alan Mencer scooped up the ball for a Kalamazoo-record 98-yard fumble return. Kalamazoo also scored on a 7-yard drive early in the fourth quarter after Albion botched a punt snap.

A 32-yard pass from Bona to Brian Spencer on the next possession put Albion in position for Jimmy Nieman's 39-yard field goal.

Albion finished the day with 10 tackles for loss. Lineman C.J. Carroll was credited with 3 ½ tackles for a loss of 18 yards.

"The defense played awesome," Albion Coach Craig Rundle said. "To shut down a high-powered offense is a testament to how well they prepared to play. The defense set the tone and we made enough plays on offense."
