Britons Complete Non-League Slate With 3-1 Record

More news about: Albion

ALBION – The margin of Albion's 35-16 victory over Central doesn't reflect the anxiety of the Briton faithful early in the fourth quarter. Clinton Orr scored three of his four touchdowns in the first half as Albion built a 21-7 cushion, but Wes Dolen preserved the lead with a pair of interceptions.

"I think last week's experience of giving up the lead late in the game helped today," Rundle said of the lessons the Britons learned in a 32-28 setback at Benedictine. "I was proud of our guys. I think they responded well."

Orr returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown and he scored on runs of 5 and 25 yards in the first half.

Albion's offense was held to three yards in the third quarter as the Central defense ganged up to stop the running game. Central was unable to score in the quarter, losing a fumble and turning the ball over on downs at the Albion 29.

Central produced points early in the fourth as Kevin Sheldon kicked a 32-yard field goal and Josh Osborn scored on a 43-yard run.

Dolen made the first of his interceptions on a third down play in Central territory. On the next play, Briton quarterback Dominic Bona rolled out and found Brian Spencer in the back of the end zone for a 24-yard scoring strike. Bona was 9-of-15 for 160 yards in his first collegiate start.

"Dominic did well," Rundle said. "He did all the things we asked him to do. We told him he didn't have to win the game. He has a lot of playmakers and he had to do a good job of getting the ball to the guys he needs to."

Orr's 40-yard run with less than two minutes remaining completed the scoring. Orr rolled up 208 all purpose yards.

Albion surrendered 412 yards. Osborn averaged nearly eight yards per carry, finishing the day with 118 yards.

"It was not one of our better performances defensively, but we made plays when we had to," Rundle said.
