Britons Blitzed in the Second Half

More news about: Albion

LISLE, Ill. – Albion College's struggles in road games under the lights continued as Benedictine University scored 25 second half points to erase a 28-7 halftime deficit and hand the Britons a 32-28 loss.

Albion scored on its first two possessions. A 56-yard connection between Spencer Krauss and Zach Brewer on the first play moved the ball to the Benedictine 9 and Clinton Orr scored from 3 yards out three plays later.

Benedictine did not manage a first down on its first offensive possession, and the Britons rode Darrin Williams' legs to get in position for another score. Krauss found Cody Crawford for a 2-yard scoring strike and the Britons led 14-0 just 7 ½ minutes into the game.

The Eagles took advantage of the Britons' aggressive blitzes to march 65 yards in 13 plays for their first score. The big play was a 24-yard pass on fourth down to set up a 1-yard run by Cyle Schultz.

Albion tacked on two more touchdowns in the second quarter as Krauss and Williams hooked up on an 8-yard scoring strike and Orr ran in from 10 yards out.

Albion got off to a good start in the second half as Mike Vandermus picked off a pass to end Benedictine's first possession.

Albion fumbled to give the ball back and Benedictine needed five plays to get in position for Schultz to make a 17-yard pass to John Borsellino for the touchdown.

The Britons gave Benedictine additional momentum when the offense was unable to generate a first down and the fourth-down snap sailed over the punter's head for a safety. Benedictine would score a touchdown after the free kick to cut Albion's lead to 28-24.

Another safety led to Borsellino's 77-yard return on the free kick to complete the scoring for the night.

Orr finished with 101 rushing yards for the Britons and Krauss completed 10 passes for 164 yards.

Albion will complete the non-league portion of the schedule Sept. 22 with a home game against Central (Iowa) College.
