Gettysburg rolls past Ursinus, 48-7

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – A balanced offensive attack by Gettysburg led the way in its 48-7 triumph over the Ursinus Bears on Saturday afternoon at Patterson Field in Centennial Conference football action

Gettysburg (2-0, 1-0 Centennial) racked up 567 yards of total offense on the day, including 376 rushing. The Gettysburg rushing attack was led by senior tailback Ted Delia, who rushed for 127 yards and four touchdowns. Delia scored on runs of 2, 33, 6 and 7 yards for Gettysburg

Senior quarterback Kody Smith threw for 205 yards in the air on 15-of-27 passing with one touchdown. He also ran for 129 yards and accounted for another touchdown on the ground.

Gettysburg was led in the receiving department by senior Kyle Davis, who hauled in five passes for 85 yards and the only Gettysburg touchdown through the air, scoring the first 36 points of the contest.

Ursinus (1-1, 0-1 Centennial) saw junior quarterback Chris Curran (Oceanview, N.J./Ocean City) go 14-of-27 for 138 yards with a touchdown.

The Bears did not get on the board until the 6:28 mark of the third quarter when Curran hit sophomore wide receiver Darius Jones (Lawnside, N.J./Haddon Heights) for a 29-yard touchdown, making the score 36-7. The play was set up by a forced fumble on a punt return by sophomore defensive back Kerwyn Ross (Westhampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) that was recovered by sophomore defensive back Greg DiSanto (Havertown, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) at the Bullet 29-yard line. The Bears scored on the next play.

The Bears rushed for only 75 yards with junior running back Bryan Ellis (Owings Mills, Md./McDonogh School) leading the way with 13 rushes for 35 yards on the day.

Ursinus was lead defensively by freshman defensive end Steve Ambs (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove), who compiled ten tackles on the day, including six solo tackles and one tackle for loss.

The game was delayed for 36 minutes midway through the fourth quarter due to lightning in the Collegeville area.

Ursinus is back on the field Saturday as they travel to Lancaster to face F&M.
