More news about: Benedictine

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Benedictine University football team rolled up 246 yards rushing to win for the first time this season, downing North Park 30-22.

The rushing attack held Benedictine dominate the line of scrimmage and nab a substantial edge in time of possession with over 36 minutes for the evening. Overall, the Eagles rolled up over 400 yards while limiting North Park to just 147 total yards including only 91 on the ground in 31 attempts.

The contest started off as a back and forth affair with the teams trading scores. With the game tied 14-14, Benedictine rattled off 16 unanswered points to take control of the contest. Cyle Schultz hooked up with Artie Monaco for a 56-yard score to open the stretch with 6:43 to play in the third. L.J. Stolarski drilled a 23-yard field goal with 10:03 remaining in the game and John Borsellino snared a 12-yard score from Schultz with just over six minutes remaining to cap the run.

North Park (0-2) was able to answer quickly after a lengthy kick return, but a fumble on a punt allowed Benedictine to run off the final 5:38 to seal the win.

Borsellino had a big day, amassing 130 yards on the ground, 68 yards receiving, and 137 yards on returns for a total of 335 yards of total offense with a pair of scores. Schultz threw three touchdowns to three different receivers and John Alessi added 55 yards on the ground.

Defensively, the Eagles forced six turnonvers. Ben Lockton led the charge with 10 tackles including 2.5 for loss and a sack. Kevin Lawson recovered a pair of fumbles in the victory, which avenged defeats the last two seasons, both playoff years for Benedictine.

The Eagles (1-1) will welcome Albion for homecoming on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. Albion upset 10th ranked Wheaton 22-21 today. Wheaton defeated Benedictine 48-7 last week.
