MINNEAPOLIS - The MLC football team rode a school-record five touchdown runs by Tyler Dorn to a 45-22 win over MacMurray at the Metrodome Friday night.
Dorn was the workhorse throughout the game for the Knights, carrying the ball 36 times for 149 yards and the five scores, each of which came inside the five-yard-line.
The Knights used the ground game to control the game, totaling 76 carries for 397 yards as a team. Joe Lindloff had 110 yards rushing on 21 carries, while Dan Rodewald had 60 yards on the ground and a touchdown.
Both teams struggled with turnovers, with the Knights turning it over six times compared to MacMurray's five. The MLC defensive effort was led by the secondary, as Micah Plocher intercepted two passes, while Andrew Stuebs had one interception and two forced fumbles. Paul Spaude recovered one fumble and also added a sack.
The Knights scored the first 24 points of the game on three touchdown runs by Dorn and a field goal at the end of the first half by Shawn Scherer, but MacMurray reeled off 16 unanswered points to cut the MLC lead to eight at 24-16, but the Knights scored on three of their final four possessions to put the game away late.
With the win, MLC improved to 2-7 overall and 2-6 in the UMAC, while MacMurray dropped to 0-8 overall and 0-7 in league play.
MLC will finish the season with a road trip to St. Scholastica on Saturday, November 5, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
