Knights' Comeback Falls Short at Greenville

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The MLC football team cut a three-score deficit to seven in the fourth quarter, but couldn't complete the comeback in a 49-35 loss Saturday afternoon.

The Knights jumped out in front to a 14-0 lead in the first half on two first quarter touchdown runs by Joe Lindloff, but Greenville came back to score 28 unanswered to take a 14-point lead at the half.

After the Knights scored to open the second half on an 11-yard pass from Lindloff to Garrett Schoch, the Panthers took command of the game with three straight scores to lead 42-21 at the end of three quarters.

The Knights would fight back, however, scoring twice in the fourth to cut the deficit to 42-35 on a touchdown run by Tyler Dorn and a 27-yard scoring pass from Lindloff to Nicholas Kressin, but a 40-yard touchdown run on fourth down by the Panthers gave Greenville the final 14-point cushion.

Lindloff provided much of the scoring for the Knights, with four touchdowns and 214 yards of total offense. Dorn led the team with 68 yards rushing and a score, while Scott Henrich had three catches for 81 yards.

Defensively, Jason Zweifel led the way with 16 tackles on the day. Jacob Rothe had 12 tackles, while Micah Plocher had eight tackles and an interception, helping the Knights win the turnover battle for the first time this season after the offense went without a giveaway on the day.

With the loss, MLC dropped to 1-6 on the season and 1-5 in the UMAC, while Greenville improved to 3-3 overall and 3-2 in league play.

MLC will return to action on Saturday, October 22, when they host Northwestern for a 1 p.m. game.
