Blueboys top Knox, move to 6-1

The Illinois College offense did most of its damage on the ground Saturday, running for 312 yards and five touchdowns in a 46-19 win over Knox College that moved the Blueboys to 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the Midwest Conference.

Cecil Brimmage paced the Blueboys' ground game, running for 148 yards, including a 97-yard scoring dash. Ryan Jefferson added 84 yards and a pair of scores, while Matt Williamson chipped in 34 yards and another pair of touchdowns.

Michael Bates completed 17-of-35 passes for 181 yards, spreading the ball among 11 different receivers.

The IC defense was led by Jake DeFauw's 10 tackles. Michael Ray made nine tackles. Keith Hunter and Eric Fisher made seven and eight tackles, respectively. Zack Meyer and Christian Philipp intercepted Knox passes.

Illinois College improves to 6-1 for the first time in over a decade (2000). The Blueboys are now in second place all by themselves in the Midwest Conference standings. Illinois College travels to Ripon College for a 1 p.m. kickoff next Saturday.
