EMORY, Va. – Caleb Jennings rushed 27 times for 184 yards and two touchdowns in Emory & Henry College's 27-3 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over visiting Guilford College Saturday. The triumph snaps the Wasps' (5-5, 1-5 ODAC) five-game losing skid and seals the Quakers' (0-10, 0-6 ODAC) first winless season since 1972.
Jennings opened the scoring with a 38-yard touchdown run on Emory & Henry's first possession. He added a one-yard scoring plunge in the fourth quarter after Paden Gaines returned a tipped pass 33 yards to Guilford's seven-yard line. Jennings also collected 86 yards on five returns and set the Wasps' career all-purpose yardage record with 6,142 yards. The 2009 ODAC Player of the Year also moved into third place on Emory & Henry's career rushing list with 3,705 yards in 39 games. He finished the season with 1,099 rushing yards, his third straight with over 1,000 yards on the ground.
Emory & Henry kicker Matt Turchin kicked two field goals to set the Wasps' single-season record (10). His 46-yarder in the fourth quarter opened a 20-3 advantage. He also kicked a 28-yard field goal on the final play of the second quarter.
Guilford senior Billy Watkins completed 22 of 38 passes for 213 yards in his final college game. His favorite target was redshirt-sophomore Ben King, who made nine catches for 105 yards, both game highs. King finished his first Guilford season with 79 catches, which ranks fourth in school history. His 1,055 receiving yards stand fifth at Guilford and his nine receiving scores stand sixth.
Rookie Tyler Hull accounted for Guilford's lone points with a 22-yard field goal in the first quarter. Guilford had a touchdown taken off the board when Brandon Thompson's 45-yard interception return in the third quarter was negated by a penalty. David Ray also recorded an interception for the Quakers and Chris Jessup made a game-high eight tackles.
