NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC football team scored the game's final 21 points to beat St. Scholastica 21-7 Saturday afternoon.

MLC running back Aaron Voss broke the school record for career touchdowns with the go-ahead score in the third quarter, giving him 32 for his career and passing former MLC runner Joel Russow's mark of 31.

Defense ruled in the first half, as the two teams managed just one scoring drive, a St. Scholastica touchdown drive at the beginning of the second quarter.

The Knights came out firing in the second half, however, scoring on two third quarter possessions.

Andrew Becker had the first score on a 36-yard run to tie the game in the opening drive of the half, and Voss broke the tie with a one-yard touchdown run to cap off an 11-play, 95-yard drive that gave the Knights a 14-7 lead.

Greg Holzhueter tacked on the insurance touchdown with just under eight minutes remaining in the game with a 26-yard touchdown run to put the Knights up by the final margin of 21-7.

MLC ran for 253 yards on the day, led by Holzhueter's 91 yards. Voss added 73, while Becker had 60 on just nine carries.

Holzhueter finished the day 6-16 passing, with all six completions coming in the second half, for 116 yards and one interception. Galen Holzhueter had four catches for 101 yards.

Defensively, the Knighs held the Saints to just 3.1 yards per rush, and held the Saints under 200 yards passing. Matt Rothe had a team-high 12 tackles, while Chuqee Fletcher and Benjamin Olson had nine tackles apiece.

With the win, MLC improved to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in league play, while CSS dropped to 2-2 on the seson and 0-1 in the UMAC.

The Knights will return to action next Saturday, October 2, when they travel to Greenville for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
