STEVENS POINT- The UW-Stevens Point football team came back from a
14 point deficit on homecoming and cruised to 41-17 victory over
UW-Oshkosh on Saturday afternoon at Community Stadium at Goerke
Field.
The Titans jumped out to an early lead with a 22-yard touchdown
run by quarterback Nate Wara in the first quarter and Charlie
Weissman added a two yard run early in the second quarter for a
14-0 Oshkosh advantage.
Jake
Swank put the Pointers on the board when he hooked up
with Jared
Jenkins on a spectacular grab in the corner of the end
zone to cut the Titans lead to seven.
Jenkins added another score with 1:56 left in the second when he
juked his way into the end zone for a 55-yard score. The Pointers
took a 17-14 lead to halftime.
Jared Fohrman started the scoring in the third when he connected
on his second field goal of the day, this time from 48 yards.
Point added three more scores on touchdown catches by Theo
Maglio and Anthony
Aker while Kyle Furhman scored on a one yard touchdown
run.
Swank completed 13 of 32 passes for 228 yards and four scores
while also adding 63 yards on the ground. Aker hauled in a
game-high six catches for 76 yards and Mike
Griffin led the Pointers ground attack with 68 yards on
20 carries.
Wara went 18 of 28 for 128 yards and added 50 yards on the ground.
Weissman had a game-high 95 yards on 19 carries.
UW-Stevens Point racked up 408 yards of total offense compared to
the 311 by UW-Oshkosh. The Pointers also took advantage of their
red zone opportunities going a perfect 5-for-5 on scoring
chances.
UW-Stevens Point (3-2, 1-1 WIAC) will return to action next
Saturday, October 16th as they travel to UW-Stout for another
conference match-up. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
