Late Field Goal Leads Greenville Past MLC

GREENVILLE, Ill. - Ten fourth quarter points erased a 9-0 MLC lead in a 10-9 loss at Greenville Saturday.

The Panthers kicked the game winning field goal with 5:47 to play after cutting the deficit to two points at 9-7 early in the fourth quarter.

The Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a sack early in the second quarter, giving MLC the only points of the first half.

Aaron Voss put the Knights ahead 9-0 in the third quarter with a seven-yard touchdown run, capping off a seven-play, 84-yard drive.

Both teams ran for more than 200 yards, and neither team topped 51 yards passing. MLC held Greenville to 25 yards passing on the day.

MLC quarterback Greg Holzhueter led the Knights' rushing attack with 93 yards on 18 carries, while Jake Unke and Aaron Voss had 74 and 45 yards, respectively.

Through the air, Holzhueter was 5-14 for 44 yards, with Mark Voss leading the way with two grabs for 27 yards.

Matt Rothe led the MLC defensive charge with nine total tackles, while Chuqee Fletcher had four tackles and a sack. Bill Fuerstenau had a forced and recovered fumble, while Andrew Stuebs had an interception.

With the loss, MLC moved to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in league play, while Greenville improved to 2-3 on the season and 1-0 in the UMAC.

The Knights will return to action next Saturday, October 9, when they travel to Minnesota, Morris for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
