The Pointers got rolling right away as they drove down field on
the first possession of the game and running back Kyle
Fuhrman scored from one yard out to put the Pointers on
top 7-0.
The Pointer defense then got the next score as safety Joe
Mleziva picked off a Briton pass and returned it 50 yards
to the end zone putting the Pointers on top 14-0.
After stopping the Briton offense again the Pointers scored on a
punt return as Albion muffed a punt and Peter
Peterson returned the punt 45 yards to the endzone
putting the Pointers up 21-0 after one quarter of play.
Albion scored with 10:02 remaining in the half to make the score
21-6, but the Pointers quickly answered scoring less than one
minute later on a 69-yard pass from Jake
Swank to Anthony
Aker, putting the Pointers on top 28-6.
Fuhrman added another score, again from a yard out, to put the
Pointers on top 35-6 with four minutes to go in the half.
The Britons scored on a 54-yard pass and converted a two point
conversion and Pointer kicker Jered
Fohrman added a 34-yard field goal before the half, as
the Pointers entered the break leading the Britons 38-14.
In the second half the Pointers used strong running performances
by Mike
Griffin and Fuhrman to help expand their lead and run out
the clock. Griffin and Fuhrman each scored second half touchdowns
and Swank found Jared
Jenkins for a touchdown pass as the Pointers outscored
Albion by 21 in the second half.
Swank finished the day completing 14 of 24 passes for 217 yards
and two touchdowns in leading the Pointer offense. Jenkins led the
team with seven catches, and Aker led the team in receiving yards
hauling in five passes for 110 yards.
The Pointer running game finished the day with 248 yards on the
ground, led by Griffin who had 84 yards on the ground and Ingram
finished the day with 82 yards. Fuhrman added 61 yards on the
ground as the Pointers added 5.5 yards per carry.
The game was also the first known pink game by any NCAA football
team, as Pointer players wore white jerseys with pink numbers in a
game dedicated to cancer awareness. Player's jerseys were auctioned
off after the game, as well as other prizes.
Former Green Bay Packer Bill Schroeder and former Pointer and
Pittsburgh Steeler Clint Kriewaldt were in attendance signing
autographs for fans during the game and all in all $20,400 was
raised for cancer.
The Pointers return to action next week as they will travel to
UW-Eau Claire to face off with the Bluegolds in the Pointers WIAC
opener. Kickoff will be at 1:00 p.m.
