Macon Stings Football

More news about: Shenandoah

ASHLAND, Va. – Undefeated Randolph-Macon scored on each of its four first half possessions Saturday on its way to a 42-14 non-conference football victory over Shenandoah.

The Yellow Jackets (3-0) took the opening kickoff and drove 85 yards in 10 plays over 5:06 to take a lead they would not relinquish over SU (0-3).

Thaddeus Scruggs completed the scoring drive with a 9-yard run on 1st and goal, and then the R-MC air attack took over.

Macon quarterback Austin Faulkner threw touchdown passes of 17, 3 and 1 yards on the host's next three possessions to stake his club to a 28-0 halftime lead.

Freshman tight end Zach Midulla had two of those TD catches, including the 1-yarder that came 15 seconds before the halftime gun.

What Midulla didn't catch, senior wideout Earl Peoples did. Peoples finished his day with 17 catches for 170 yards and two touchdowns, nine of which came in the first half. Both of his scores came after the break.

R-MC had 17 first downs in the first 30 minutes of play, gained 271 yards and held the ball for 22:37.

Shenandoah struggled offensively, making just two first downs and 33 yards on 13 offensive plays. Running back Kevin Roberts had over half of this production with 22 yards on seven carries.

The Hornets got on the board on the opening drive of the second half, driving 65 yards in 11 plays to make the score 28-7.

Keone Kyle capped off the drive with a 1-yard run on 1st and goal; Macon helped matters by committing two personal fouls in the series, including a roughing the passer penalty on the initial third down of the drive.

The visitors final touchdown came in the waning moments of the contest when quarterback Daniel Wright found senior Brian Calloway at the right pylon on 4th and 10 from the Macon 20.

The hosts finished the day with 440 yards (267 through the air) to 143 for SU. Corey Giffing paced the defense with 12 tackles.

Shenandoah is off next week and hosts Christopher Newport on October 2 in a 7 p.m. contest.
