BANGOR, Maine — Otterbein made the most of its 19-hour bus ride, turning back Husson 38-0 on Friday evening in Bangor, Maine to open the 2010 season.

Senior running back Colton Coy rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns while the Cardinal defense limited the Eagles to 116 yards of total offense, forcing four turnovers in the process, in this nonconference game.

Coy opened the scoring on Otterbein's second possession of the game, a 4-yard touchdown run, which capped off a 12-play, 85-yard drive. The Cardinals led 7-0 with 3:41 to play in the first quarter.

The Cardinals, ranked 20th by D3football.com, scored on its next two possessions, a pair of scoring strikes of six and 10 yards from junior quarterback Austin Schlosser to junior wide receiver Trey Fairchild and senior wide receiver Steve Kuzyk, respectively, to take a 21-0 lead after the first half.

Coy continued to be the go-to guy in the second half, breaking off a 19-yard run for a touchdown 24 seconds into the second half following an interception by Otterbein junior linebacker Shane Centers. The Cardinals held a commanding 28-0 lead with 14:36 to go in the third quarter.

Senior kicker David Brewer added a 38-yard field goal and sophomore running back Brit Musal, replacing Coy midway through the fourth quarter, scored on a 13-yard run to finish the Otterbein scoring.

Coy carried the ball 27 times for 166 yards and two scores along with a 32-yard reception.

Schlosser completed 14 of 23 pass attempts for 204 yards and two touchdowns. Kuzyk led the team with six receptions for 54 yards while Fairchild caught five balls for 81 yards.

Defensively, the Cardinals held Husson to 70 yards rushing and 46 yards passing.

Centers led the team with six tackles, four unassisted, along with two pass breakups. Junior linebacker Chad Pepper was credited with two forced fumbles. Senior defensive tackle Chaz Horsley tallied four solo tackles along with a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Junior rover back Dominic Jones made two solo tackles for a loss, including a pass sack for a loss of 11 yards.

Otterbein has a bye next weekend and will host 11th-ranked Ohio Northern on Sept. 18 in its Ohio Athletic Conference and home opener. The Polar Bears opened the new season with a 35-21 victory over Wisconsin-River Falls Thursday at home.
