The Widener athletic department announced that head football coach Mike Kelly is no longer employed at Widener. Kelly posted a record of 4-6 in 2018.
 
Widener athletic director Jack Shafer said a national search for a new head coach will begin immediately. Assistant coach Mike Barainyak will assume the role of interim head coach during the search. Barainyak has been with the Pride football team since 2017.

A former head coach with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL, Kelly spent five seasons in the Pride's top spot, peaking in his first season, 2014. That season Widener went 12-1 and reached the national quarterfinals. Since then, however, Widener has gone 23-18, including 4-6 thie past season.
