Mike Drass, who has been head football coach at Wesley since 1993, has passed away of an apparent heart attack. He was 57 years old.

Drass led Wesley to the Division III football playoffs each of the past 13 seasons. At 228-61-1, he ended the season No. 2 among active Division III football coaches in career wins.

A three-time D3football.com regional coach of the year, Drass' Wolverines reached the Division III national semifinals six times, most recently in 2014. In 2015, the field at Wesley was named in his honor, with the name Mike Drass Field joining the title of Scott D. Miller Stadium.

He coached 32 players to a total of 45 D3football.com All-America honors. That list most recently included offensive tackle Matt Gono, who was signed by the Atlanta Falcons after the 2017 NFL draft

“The Wesley College family’s heart is broken, and we are devastated by the loss of our long-time athletic director, head football coach, educator and friend,” said Wesley president Robert E. Clark II. “No words can adequately describe how our Wesley College family feels, but our thoughts, prayers and our love are with Laurie, Molly and the entire Drass family.”
