St. John's routinely plays in front of large crowds, including ones that pack the natural bowl hillside wichh surrounds the Clemens Stadium field. But no crowd has routinely been larger than St. John's home games vs. St. Thomas. Photo by Scott Pierson, d3photography.com |
Bolstered by the largest recorded attendance for a football game in Division III history, St. John's led Division III in football attendance for the 14th time in 15 seasons.
St. John's drew an average of 7,625 fans for its seven home games. That included the Tommie-Johnnie archrivalry game with St. John's on Sept. 26, which featured an announced crowd of 17,327.
The NCAA does not track single-game attendance records in Division III football. Attendance counts are self-reported and most often are estimates rather than actual head counts.
With four schools in the top 12 in attendance, the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference led conferences in attendance by nearly 500 fans. MIAC schools averaged 3,286 fans for home games, while the American Southwest Conference was second at 2,791 and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference finished third, with 2,771.
