Southern Virginia athletic director Jason Lamb today named Matthew Edwards interim head football coach effective immediately.
Edwards replaces Jason Walker, who earned one win (1-19) in his two-year tenure as the Knights head football coach.
“We are dedicated to building a competitive NCAA D-III football program and this was a necessary step toward that goal,” Lamb said, “I have extreme confidence in Coach Edwards and his ability to lead the team during this transition as we work through the important process of hiring our football program’s next head coach.”
Walker was first hired as defensive coordinator, then head coach in separate transactions taking place at Southern Virginia a little over a month apart in the spring of 2014.
Edwards, a North Salt Lake, Utah native, served as the tight end and lead kick return coach at Brigham Young before coming to Southern Virginia as the offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator.
