St. Vincent announced today that it has opened a search for a
new coach to lead its football program, which was resurrected in
2006 after a 45-year hiatus.
Coach Bob Colbert will not return for the 2014 season.
"We are grateful to Bob for his work to re-establish football as
an NCAA varsity sport at Saint Vincent," said Br. Norman Hipps,
O.S.B., president of St. Vincent.
The Bearcats, winless in 2012 and 2013, compete in the Presidents'
Athletic Conference in NCAA Division III. After the college
suspended varsity football in 1962, Colbert had led the revival of
the program, fielding his first team in 2007. After winning just
one game in the program's first three seasons following the rebirth
of football at Saint Vincent, the 2010 team finished 3-7.
Colbert was 10-61 in seven seasons.
In 2011, Colbert was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference
Coach of the Year after leading the Bearcats to a 6-5 overall mark
and their first postseason appearance since 1949. SVC finished the
regular season with a 6-4 mark and 5-3 in the PAC to finish tied
for second in the league.
"Bob is a fine man who has run our program with integrity," Hipps
said. "We hope to find someone to carry on our program who will set
the same standard of honorable coaching practices Bob has always
demonstrated."
