The College of New Jersey football head coach Eric Hamilton will be suspended for the first two games of the 2013 season as a result of a postgame incident following last October's game against Kean, according to a report in The Times of Trenton.

Hamilton, who will be entering his 37th year as head coach at the school, was part of an altercation involving Kean University security officers who traveled with the Cougars to the game held on TCNJ's campus last Oct. 20. Hamilton's son, Matthew, an assistant coach, was involved in the incident and was not rehired for the upcoming season.

The newspaper article relied on "sources close to the situation" to confirm the report.

Matthew Golden, the TCNJ associate vice president for communication and college relations, emailed a statement that read as follows:

"We were notified by Kean's athletic director of a verbal confrontation between TCNJ staff members and Kean police officers at the conclusion of a game between the two schools last fall. TCNJ reviewed that incident and took appropriate steps in response. We do not publicly discuss personnel issues and, therefore, cannot share any further details regarding this matter."

Hamilton has a career coaching mark of 212-144-6. The Lions open the 2013 season by traveling to Ursinus, then hosting FDU-Florham. He would return to the sidelines for Sept. 28 home game against future NJAC opponent Southern Virginia.
