SALEM, Va. -- Scottie Williams, who led Emhurst to a share of the CCIW championship and the second round of the NCAA playoffs, added another honor to his career story, winning the 2012 Gagliardi Trophy.

It's the third time that the honor, which goes to the top all-around student-athlete in Division III, has gone to a player from the CCIW. The Gagliardi Trophy takes into account football prowess, academics and community service.

"When I heard that I was a finalist, it was very surprising. I never thought that people were really paying attention to little schools like us," Williams said. "To be here (as the winner), words can't express how I feel about it."

Williams was the catalyst for Elmhurst's rushing attack, compiling 2,046 yards and 22 touchdowns this season, setting Elmhurst single-season records in the process. He averaged 170.5 yards per game and 6.2 yards per carry this season while also catching 23 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns.

Off the field, Williams compiled a 3.21 GPA as a marketing major, helped build homes with Habitat for Humanity in Mississippi and helped raise for Relay for Life.
