The John Carroll athletic department announced Thursday afternoon that head football coach Regis Scafe is leaving the university.

The Blue Streaks finished 6-4 this past season, 5-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. John Carroll was 88-56 in Scafe's 14 years and he is 104-90 in 19 seasons as a collegiate head coach, all in Division III.

According to Senior Director of Athletics, Laurie Massa, “the search for a replacement is underway. We hope to name a new head football coach by December 1, 2012."

Scafe was the fourth of 10 head coaches in the conference to be announced as leaving his position.

If John Carroll keeps the search internal, given the time frame, they could look at co-offensive coordinator Tom Arth, a two-time D3football.com All-America selection at quarterback and former member of the Indianapolis Colts.

Massa added, “We are grateful for Regis Scafe's many contributions to the football program and we wish him well.  He is a great person who is well liked by his colleagues and he has had a positive impact on the lives of the JCU student-athletes he has coached.  This was a difficult decision, but we believe it is in the best interest of our Blue Streaks football program. We expect our players to excel on the field and in the classroom next season, and we are very optimistic about the future of John Carroll football.”
